    MODED OF TRANSPORTATION

Cambodia is home to various transports - some of which you will have never seen; some which disappeared long ago from western countriesM

Cyclo is a tricycle-rickshaw which is also widely used in Vietnam and Lao; a form of public transport consisting of a tricycle with the passenger compartment up front. They often carry entire families but are also used to carry goods including motorbikes, animals and building materials. It is also used by the driver as his bed!

Trucks with open roof and no seat have been popular for transporting festival revelers or carrying factory workers daily between their villages and the garment factories.

Motodop is a motorcycle taxi. It is a most convenient and fastest way to move around from one place to another even in congested traffic if you don’t mind of sun light or rain.

Bicycles are also used frequently; families will often purchase a bicycle before a motorbike. They are used for carrying people as well as goods (including animals such as chickens and pigs). In some provinces bicycles are also used as a taxi (one or two persons on the back).

Three wheeled vehicles called Moto-Kang-Bei or Tuk-Tuk (usually a two wheeled carriage pulled by a motorbike) are available in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other major towns. These are a good way for guests travelling in twos or threes to move around the towns and are probably safer than motodops but not as fun!!

Remorque Motor - a motorbike which pulls a long carriage with many seats. A large number of people that can be carried on are equivalent to a bus or a van.

Taxis (Car) are commonly found in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. They are air conditioned cars (usually small sedans); provide a welcome relief from the heat, rain and sunshine.

Buses are becoming more common now the roads are improving. There are large and small buses available for trips between most provincial cities including Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Battambang

Boats - many Khmer live on a river or lake or perhaps may live on water at some time during the wet season.

Ferries that are used to cross the major rivers however most guests are unlikely to have the opportunity to catch a ferry.

Ox, buffalo and horse carts can be seen in all rural areas however as they are regional, it might only be possible to see one or two types depending on the province you visit.

Elephant rides are available for guests and are a fun way to see the countryside; it will give you a good idea of the 'real' Cambodia and you will have a lot of fun!

Railway Lorry - Soon to be disappear: A mean of good and people transportation for those who live along the railway especially in Battambang area.

Speedboat It is a pleasant ride travelling between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, Kratie to see Cambodian truly countryside and villagers who live along the Tonle Sap Lake and Tonle Mekong River.
